Mattern Guide Service is founded and operated by Don Mattern Sr.. Don has been fishing for Bass since He was 16 and caught his first 5 1/2
lb. Bass and has been hooked ever since. Don guides on 3 Texas Lakes. Sam Rayburn, Lake Palestine, & Lake Fairfield. Don is also a Pastor and
has been Pastoring at Hillcrest World Harvest Church in Palestine, Texas for the last 14 years. Don loves God and His creation in the outdoors.
Don has been married to Debra, His wife for 37 years and thanks Jesus for her everyday.

Lakes Don Fishes are located in the Eastern Piney Woods and Prairies and Lakes areas as designated by Texas Parks and
Wildlife. Each Lake is linked to either the US Army COE website or the Texas Parks and Wildlife Page. So you may learn about
their history and local area attractions.

 Sam Rayburn
is 110,000 surface acres of the most beautiful Bass habitat in Texas. From Timber to Hydrilla laced coves full of Big Bass. Eagles
are seen everyday flying over this East Texas Paradise. Big Sam is great all year long. Even in winter Big Bass are prowling the shallows and are
hitting lipless crankbaits and spinnerbaits as well as Jigs and Lizards.

Lake Palestine is 25,000 surface acres of diverse Bass Habitat as well. With numbers rather than size as its counter part Big Sam. Lots of action
and has great fishing from March through October. Lots of Backwater areas to look for those Mossback Bass in thickets of grass and timber.

Lake Fairfield is a blessing to all those who have cabin fever in winter. It is a Power Plant Lake taking the Lake water in at the intake at about 53
-60 degrees and coming out at the discharge at a warm 73-84 degrees. Most the Lake stays at a toasty 63 degrees from December through
February. The Bass spawn 2 months earlier than the cold water Lakes and January through February is the peak of the spawn. The treat is the
Lake is regularly stocked with Redfish, that's right redfish which can be caught all through winter as well. Why drive all the way to the Gulf Coast of
 Texas!
